Game of Thrones Houses

Westeros is divided into nine regions where the Game of Thrones houses takes residence. They include The Riverlands, The North, The Crownlands, The Stormlands, The Reach, The Vale, The Westerlands, The Iron Islands and Dorne.  The ten Great Houses are the key players in the military, economic, and political affairs of Westeros. They include House Baratheon, House Stark, House Arryn, House Martell, House Lannister, House Greyjoy, House Tully, House Targaryen, House Tyrell and House Frey.

 

House Stark

House Stark

Among the great Game of Thrones Houses is the royal House of Stark located in the North region. It is the primary noble house in the North, and their seat is Winterfell, which is an old castle recognized for its power. In the ancient past they governed as Kings of Winter, since the success of the Targaryen invasion, they have been Wardens of the North. The House of Stark sigil is a grey direwolf dashing across a field of white. Their slogan is “Winter is Coming”.  It is among the few houses whose motto delivers a message of warning and not of self-praise. The members of the House of Stark have very distinct physical features. They tend to have a lean build, long face, grey eyes and dark brownish hair.

 

House Targaryen

The worthy House Targaryen is one of the noteworthy Houses in the Seven Kingdoms. The Targaryens descended from Valyria, and have dwelled on Dragonstone Island for centuries, until when the Aegon Targaryen and his 2 sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys rode their dragons to the incursion of the Seven Kingdoms. House Targaryen ruled as kings of Westeros for virtually 300 years, till they were overpowered in the Usurper War. The Targaryens ruled from the seats of Island castle of Dragonstone and the capital city of King’s Landing. The regions surrounding these fortifications became referred to as the Crownlands. Various otherarea included the Darklyns, lords of Crackclaw points and the Velaryons. These were resolute loyalists of Residence Targaryen. An additional close ally of the Targaryens was House Baratheon.

The House Baratheon of Storm’s End is another great Games of Thrones Houses of Westeros located in the Stormlands region. The Baratheons are descendants of the Storm Kings, and trace their roots back to Orys Baratheon.  The members of the Baratheon dynasty have similar features and traits. Their inherent physical attributes are quite distinct as they tend to have blue eyes, black hair and square jawlines. They are also tall and muscularly built. They are well known for their flaring tempers and ferociousness. Their sigil is a crowned black on a field of gold. Their motto is “Ours is Fury”. Currently, Stannis Baratheon is king of Storm’s End.

The Crownlands is home to one of the Game of Thrones houses, the royal House of Baratheon of Kings’s Landing. This house comes from the royal line of House Baratheon of Storm’s End. Robert Baratheon establishes the house after his insurgency against Aerys II Targaryen succeeds.

 House Lannister

House Lannister is among the noblest Games of Thrones Houses. They dwells in the region of Westerlands. Their main stronghold is Casterly Rock. The sigil of the House Lannister is a golden lion layed on a crimson field. The House of Lannister is the richest in the Seven Kingdoms as they have control over many gold mines. Their motto is “Hear me roar”, there other well known motto is “A Lannister always pays his debts”. They ruled as the Kings of Rock until they were defeated by the Taragaryen; however, they were allowed to continue as the paramount lords of Westerlands. The House of Lannister had gone through rough times during the reign of Tytos; however, Tywin restored the house to its former greatness.

 

House Tyrell

The Reach region is the native land of one of the Games of Thrones Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, House Tyrell of Highgarden. It is among the wealthiest houses in Westeros, only surpassed by House Lannister. The House of Tyrell is large, and they can command the greatest armies in Westeros. Moreover, if they summon their bannermen’s fleets the Redwynes, the coastal lords, and the lords of the Shield Islands, they can command a task force that rivals if not exceed the royal armada. Their seat is Highgarden, an archaic of governance, and the heart of decorum in the Seven Kingdoms. They House of Tyrell by tradition have been Wardens of the South. The Tyrells regard themselves as “High Marshalls of the East”, and “Defenders of the Marches”. Their sigil is a golden rose on a green field. Their motto is “Growing Strong”. Members of House Tyrell have curly brownish hairs and brown gold-like eyes.

 

House Tully

House Tully is one of the great Game of Thrones houses of Westeros. They dwell in the Riverlands, and it is the primary house in this region. Their stronghold is the castle at Riverrun, and it is one of the well-secured keeps in the Seven Kingdoms. The Tully’s lineage dates back to the Age of Heroes. They were the Lords of Riverrun, but they never became kings. In spite of that, they have allied themselves with the powerful House Baratheon and House Stark. The Tullys are generally stubborn, and they do not surrender easily. Their motto is “Family, Duty, Honor” and their sigil is a silver trout jumping on a red and blue striped field.

House Greyjoy

One of the noble Game of Thrones Houses of Westeros is House Greyjoy. They govern over the Iron Islands, a group of islands off the west coast of Westeros from the island of Pyke. They are harsh and quite desolate. The House of Greyjoy sigil is a golden kraken on a black field. The members of the House Greyjoy are extremely attractive; they have dark hair and are well-built. The Greyjoy’s motto is “We Do Not Sow”.

 

House Arryn

House Arryn of the Eyrie is among the great Game of Thrones Houses located in the Vale region. It is the primary noble house in Vale, and their main castle is the Eyrie.  They have other numerous holdings, where one of them is a winter castle named Gates of the Moon. These strongholds are located on the both side of the Giant’s Lance, which is the tallest mountain of the vale, and Eyrie is deemed impenetrable. The House Arryn sigil is a white moon-and-falcon on a sky-blue field.  Their motto is “As High as Honor”.

 

House Martell

Dorne is the dwelling place of one of the noble Game of Thrones Houses of Westeros, House Martell of Sunspear. The name Nymeros denotes “of the lineage of Nymeria,” however, it is called House Martell in general. In the ancient days, the Martells used a spear as their coat of arms, whereas the Nymeria and Rhoynar used the sun as their emblem. The two symbols were joined into a golden spear penetrating a red sun laying on the orange field when Nymeria married King Mors Martell. The members of the Martell family have dark eyes, dark hair and olive skin. “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” is their motto.

House Frey

House Frey is one of the great Game of Thrones Houses of Westeros. They dwell in the Riverlands, and rule from their castle called the Twins. It got this name as it has identical keeps on each side of a river connected by a bridge called the Stone Bridge. Their ruler is Lord Walder Frey, also referred to as the Lord of the Crossing.  Their sigil is two grey towers linked by a bridge. Up till now, they have no known motto.

 

House of Baelish of Harrenhal

The Riverlands area is the house place of one of the Game of Thrones Houses of Westeros, House Baelish of Harrenhal. It was established by Lord Petyr Baelish after acquiring King Joffrey’s marital relationship contract. Lord Baelish became Lord Paramount of the Trident after your house of Tully was gotten rid of from Riverrrun

House Bolton

House Bolton of the Dreadfort is one of the Great Houses of the North. They are descendants of the First Men, and their roots can be traced back to the Age of Heroes. Their seat of ruling is an old castle called the Dreadfort , and the lands owned by the Boltons at one time belonged to the Great House Stark.

The head of House Bolton is known as the Lord of the Dreadfort and Warden of the North. Their sigil is a red flayed man, hanged upside down. The Boltons are quite powerful, it is rumored that they flayed their enemies while they were still alive, hence the symbol of their sigil. Apparently, they even wore the skins of their enemies as cloaks. However, it is said that the Bolton Lords ceased the practice about a thousand years ago. Although, rumor has it that they still flay their enemies in secret.

The members of House Bolton have similar physical features, mainly, dark hair and extremely pale blue eyes. Their motto is “Our Blades are sharp”, although the members of House Bolton have a common saying which is ‘A flayed man has no secrets’.
